Emergency First Responder
The EFR course is designed to give participants the competencies to assess and assist patients in a pre-hospital environment with a wide range of traumatic injuries and medical emergencies.
Learners become familiar with the safe operation of ambulance equipment to treat a casualty and stabilise injuries while awaiting the arrival of an ambulance.
The course includes emergency childbirth, the administration of Oxygen, suctioning, and the use of oropharyngeal airways. The EFR’s scope of practice for trauma patients extends to manual stabilisation of the cervical spine, helmet removal, vacuum splints, spinal boards and collar application.
Assisting with the self-administration of certain prescribed medications is also included.
An Emergency First Responder should be committed to the process of continuous responder competence and will be required to maintain their levels of skill in both CFR and EFR at defined intervals.
